Look!
$35 pair of Nike Landsharks or several hundred thousand dollars in legal and medical bills to the:
1. IDPA club
2. The range
3. The MD
4. The SO
5. IDPA HQ
Which would you rather pay?
Methinks that if the MD can decide to forego the wearing of concealment garments for match competitors during very hot and humid weather, then the MD should be afforded the ability... the discretion to allow cleats when the range surface is muddy or slippery.
That's all I am asking for... one little blurb in the new rule book to leave it up to the MD's discretion.
Cleats sound like cheap insurance to me.

If all the matches were hosted on concrete and asphalt, like I would find walking to the bank, ect, then I wouldn't need cleats.
If I knew I was going to be trudging around in the mud all day, I'd wear cleats. _________________ A28264 |

If the range conditions don't warrant steady footing with normal shoes...
DON'T DESIGN A STAGE THAT REQUIRES LOTS OF MOVEMENT... _________________ Drew Bingaman

Will there be a section under your rules about cleats defining under what conditions they are allowable and not allowable? Or can we wear them all the time? _________________ Mark Mayo

Personally, if you wouldn't walk out of your house wearing it to the bank, mall or restaurant I don't think it belongs in the sport. And the BS about tactical fisherman/photographer vests is just that, BS. I wear them out now and then. No more or less than I wear them in matches.
If moving that fast in mud with a loaded gun is that important to you what's your excuse going to be when you slip wearing cleats? |
I'd amend the book to say that safety is the number one concern, and that the shooter should wear shoes appropriate to the match conditions.
If you want me to dress appropriately for going to the gym, bankc etc then hold the match in those conditions ... sidewalk like surfaces, or carpet, or whatever.
We are often shooting out in a field for goodness sake.
As for the vest, I think the idea is that they aren't the typical or dominant wear for CCW.
I've worn mine out, but only because I have one for competition.
My daily carry, and I'd guess that it's the "norm" is IWB with tucked shirt over the pistol, or untucked shirt. If I thought vests were used for concealment more than 10% of the time I'd shutup about it. |
