If we are looking for ammo that is widely available and not to expensive (and this is my vote) then I'd suggest that we chrono WWB, UMC and a few other typical 38 spl loads, then set the threshold there, turn around and never look back.
If we are looking for service rounds and don't care about cost, then I'd suggest that we mimic those in 38spl and set whatever threshold that is .. but to remain consistent, I think we should do the same for 9mm (I'm going to guess we are close to 150 here?), .40 and .45.
Ammo goals are just that.
Some folks buy premium and shoot it ... typically because they want to be familiar with it "just in case". I respect them a lot.
Some folks load to mimic the premium rounds ... again mucho respect.
Some folks shoot WWB because it's cheap, easy to get and they don't have to reload to get it. I'm in that crowd. I can honestly say that if gold dots (or whatever) cost the same, I'd shoot them. I have an unused reloader in my "man cave". I'm just too busy to reload. I'd be happy to shoot anyones "hot" reloads in a match if they'll sell me them for .20 cents a round and I think they are a safe reloader.
And, some folks shoot the softest loads they can do legally (and sometimes not?) because it's a game. Well, more power to them. I believe if they worried as much about practice and mindset as they do about "gaming" they'd do better, but that's just one mans opinion.
To sum it all up, if we are going to "enforce" full service ammo, let's do it across the board and not just pick on the SSR folks. Otherwise, cut the PF to a defendable level (WWB out of a 4" 686 or GP100) and let it go.
Will it bring hoards to the division ... doubt it. But a division that seems to be languishing can use all the help it can get. And it SURE WON'T HURT ANYTHING!!! It's consistent with what we allow in the other divisions, in fact MORE than so (allowing .40 and .45 to be shot down at 125? get real). |

I find it funny that people slam the .45acp down loaded to 125PF when a bunch of shooters are running .38spl (factory) ammo that does not even make power, 125PF is 125PF. Before the SSR/ESR split people would make the same comments "gamey moonclip guns", "gamey .45 loads"
if they make PF who cares.
As I posted before, when the split came down it should have been just that, a split, PF should have been left alone as they no longer compete against each other, you could then run .38 moon clip guns, for that matter you could run your .38spl speedloader gun in ESR. There is more to ESR than .45acp.Last point, CDP/.45acp=165PF but I can run the same gun in ESP at 125PF and if running a Glock 21 could also shoot SSP at 125PF.

PS
If ESR was changed to 125PF people would not have to worry about the other guys .45 ammo being softer than there OTC stuff, let them have the .45 if you could shoot, off the shelf Winchester 150g LRN and make power. Just my 2 cents.
